The Bremerton Marathon was held on May 11 this spring and Kitsap CERT volunteers were there providing critical support. The race started at Evergreen Park and runner made their way through Manette, Illahee, Brownsville, Silverdale, Chico, and back to Evergreen Park. Along the way, CERT was supporting the race by providing traffic control as runner crossed busy streets and also staffed aid stations on the course. There were nine volunteers that support the race this year and Team Leader Ken Hulet hopes increase that number at next year’s race.

In appreciate for the service provided by the team, race organizers Crystal and Ryan Whittier presented 40 CERT field guides to Ken Hulet earlier this month. They shared the value that CERT brought to the race by increasing  the safety and for the runners as they provide extra eyes and ears along the 26.2 mile course and the of quality of the experience as they were able to keep running without having to make stops at intersections. The field guides provide CERT a summary of the principles and best practices they learned in their training and function a reference tool when mobilized for a community event or an emergency response.

The Bremerton Marathon got back on track this year after  the race was suspended during the pandemic. Both the full and half marathon is scheduled for April 26 next spring. Learn more at bremertonmarathon.com
