The public is invited to the Open House of Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management’s (KCDEM) new home on Friday, March 14 from noon to 4 p.m.
The Emergency Services Operations & Training Center ribbon cutting will be at 12:30 p.m. followed by tours of the facility and displays, the programs led and supported by KCDEM and our volunteer teams, and an overview of how the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) works in an activation.
Why is this a big deal and more than just a change of address? First, we are now in an earthquake resistant facility in a geologically stable area where Continuity of Government and Continuity of Operations can take place, along with the County’s Emergency Operations Center. Second, we have a dedicated training facility for stakeholders, volunteers and staff to hone our skills needed to manage disasters. Third, we now have ample space for storage of critical tools, supplies, equipment and rolling stock to serve residents of Kitsap County in times of disaster.
The event will include light refreshments and will be open to the public until 4:00 p.m. The address is 8900 Imperial Way SW, just around the corner from the Public Works Annex in the industrial park across the highway from the Bremerton National Airport.
