The month of September is National Preparedness Month. This year, special emphasis is on providing preparedness resources to older adults. Recognizing that older adults often face unique hurdles during disaster, FEMA has the Disaster Preparedness Guide for Older Adults.
Designed with usability in mind, the guide features user-friendly formats such as checklists, tools and resources. It highlights the importance for older adults to prepare by taking three essential steps—assessing needs, creating a plan and engaging support networks. Caregivers, family members and those invested in the well-being of older adults will find this guide adaptable and indispensable in their efforts to ensure the safety and security of our older adult community members.
