The National Incident Management System (NIMS) was established by FEMA and includes the Incident Command System (ICS). NIMS is used as the standard for emergency management by all public agencies in the United States for both planned and emergency events. ICS 300 and ICS 400 are classes specifically designed for those who might be managing expanding events all the way up to catastrophic disasters.
Over the week of November 1-5, participants learned and practiced this critical incident management skill. Students came from fire departments across the region, law enforcement, city officials, volunteers, Department of Emergency Management and the National Guard members.
Long days were the norm and while the classes are available virtually, all those attending felt they could learn and practice the skills better face to face. Pandemic precautions were taken as dictated by agency policies of the Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue.
