Kitsap Emergency Operations Center – Great ShakeOut Earthquake Participation

Loading Events

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which has been activated since February of 2020, will once again participate in the Great Washington ShakeOut. The event will be on October 21, 2021. The Great Washington ShakeOut occurs annually in mid-October and is part of International ShakeOut Day, partially sponsored by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the US Geological Survey (USGS).

At 10:21 AM, EOC members will drop, cover, and hold for at least 60 seconds and then answer a series of survey questions which evaluates their ability to not only survive a major earthquake, but help us understand how to be better prepared to manage the situation after an earthquake. Participation is crucial. The earthquake itself may only last a matter of seconds or minutes, but it may take weeks, months, or even years for a community to fully recover, and the Emergency Management Department will play a huge role.

Think about your own preparedness plans and consider joining in the Great Washington ShakeOut!
