All students are to bring one new Bic Classic lighter. You may also bring a ferrocerium rod and striker if you have one, as well as a pair of gardening or leather palm gloves. Dress for the weather of the day. This class will be hands-on and will involve walking on trails and kneeling; kneeling pads will be available.

Class date is Saturday, September 14 and is limited to 8 community members in addition to the KCDEM volunteers already registered. Class starts at 1 pm and will be about 2.5 hours.

After this class the student will have the fundamental knowledge of how to build and maintain a fire using only a few resources that the student should have, and the resources found in nature.

This class will be held at Camp Calvinwood, near Port Orchard. The address is 6838 Calvinwood Road, Port Orchard.  Calvinwood Road is about 3.5 miles from the Sedgwick overpass. From the Sidney and Sedgwick intersection, head west/southwest on Sedgwick, which will eventually become Lake Flora Rd. Please close the gate after entry and exit.

After this class the student will have the fundamental knowledge of how to prevent, recognize, and treat hypothermia injury.

**There will be about an hour break before the next class, so if you’d like to take both classes on the same day, you can bring a lunch or return after getting a lunch.**
