SUMMARY:Incident Command System 300 and 400 - In-person training
DESCRIPTION:ICS-300 provides an in-depth focus on the NIMS Incident Command System (ICS) that includes the tools\, practices\, and procedures that are available in ICS to effectively manage emergency incidents or planned local events at a local Type 3 level. Expanding upon ICS-100 and -200\, this course ensures that responders understand the basic ICS concepts that allow an incident management organization to expand and contract as needed to fit the incident and maintain its operational effectiveness. \nICS-400 provides training and resources for responders who require advanced application of the ICS by providing overall incident management skills rather than tactical expertise. Expanding upon information covered in ICS-100 through ICS-300 courses\, ICS-400 emphasizes large-scale organizational development\, roles and relationships of the command and general staff\, and planning\, operational\, logistical\, and fiscal considerations related to large and complex incident and event management. The course also describes the application of Area Command and the importance of interagency coordination on complex incidents and events. \n \nCourse registration information is: \nICS 300 \nICS 400

SUMMARY:Kitsap Emergency Operations Center - Great ShakeOut Earthquake Participation
DESCRIPTION:The Emergency Operations Center (EOC)\, which has been activated since February of 2020\, will once again participate in the Great Washington ShakeOut. The event will be on October 21\, 2021. The Great Washington ShakeOut occurs annually in mid-October and is part of International ShakeOut Day\, partially sponsored by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the US Geological Survey (USGS). \nAt 10:21 AM\, EOC members will drop\, cover\, and hold for at least 60 seconds and then answer a series of survey questions which evaluates their ability to not only survive a major earthquake\, but help us understand how to be better prepared to manage the situation after an earthquake. Participation is crucial. The earthquake itself may only last a matter of seconds or minutes\, but it may take weeks\, months\, or even years for a community to fully recover\, and the Emergency Management Department will play a huge role. \nThink about your own preparedness plans and consider joining in the Great Washington ShakeOut! \n

SUMMARY:Establishing a Casualty Collection Point
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nVolunteer members of our Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) will be practicing triage\, treatment and setting up a Casualty Collection Point. \nIt’s important when there is a mass casualty event such as a bus accident\, mass shooting or devastating earthquake\, that our volunteers have the skills to help keep the injured alive until they can be transported to a hospital. \nIn the case of a Cascadia or Seattle Fault earthquake\, our professional fire and medical crews may be over-whelmed\, and this is where having well trained volunteers who are part of an organized response can save lives. \nFor more information about participating in this event as a CERT or MRC member\, please contact dem@kitsapdem.org.

SUMMARY:Pandemic/Family Assistance Center Exercise
DESCRIPTION:There will be a four-hour exercise to practice setting up a Family Assistance Center during a pandemic situation. Typically\, Family Assistance Centers are established when there has been some type of mass casualty event. The purpose of these centers is to offer support to the families of those involved in a disaster. \nA wide range of key stakeholders and community partners will participate. Participants may be in-person at the Family Assistance Center set-up at the KCDEM Staging site\, virtual\, or in a consultation mode\, as needed. \nKCDEM will guide participants through an exercise with three modules. KCDEM will use feedback from participants to revise the Family Assistance Center Annex plan and better prepare the whole community. \nMobile Command Center Henry will be used in this exercise. \nFor more information about participating in this event\, please contact dem@kitsapdem.org.
